IFS is a type of talk therapy that helps you explore and understand the different “parts” of yourself—like the inner critic, the people-pleaser, the anxious part, or the part that wants to shut down. These parts often develop as ways to protect you or help you cope with difficult experiences.
In IFS, we don’t try to get rid of these parts—we get to know them with curiosity and compassion. The goal is to help each part feel seen, understood, and supported by what IFS calls your “Self”—the calm, wise, centered part of you that’s always there beneath the noise.
EMDR is used to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences or distressing memories.
EMDR therapy is based on the idea that trauma or negative experiences can become "stuck" in the brain, leading to emotional and psychological distress. Through specific eye movements, sounds, or taps, EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories, reducing their emotional charge and allowing individuals to integrate the memories in a healthier way.
A therapeutic approach that is specifically designed to be inclusive, supportive, and validating of individuals from marginalized or underrepresented groups, particularly in terms of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression. This approach aims to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their identities, experiences, and challenges without fear of discrimination, invalidation, or shame.
In the context of LGBTQ+ individuals, affirmative therapy is grounded in the belief that the diversity of sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions are normal and valid, and it actively challenges societal biases and stereotypes that may contribute to internalized oppression, stigma, or discrimination.
Helps individuals view their problems as separate from themselves and encourages them to reframe or rewrite the story they tell about their lives. This approach is based on the idea that people create meaning and identity through the stories they tell about their experiences. By examining these narratives, clients can gain new perspectives, challenge negative or limiting beliefs, and identify their strengths and values.

Trauma and traumatic stress can happen to anyone at any time and can be experienced in a variety of ways that have short-term or long-term effects. Generally, traumatic experiences are interpreted as events that overwhelm the body and the nervous system's ability to respond and cope. As human beings, we react to these events and cope in whatever ways we can. Some of these ways of coping can be adaptive and be sources of strength, while other times our reactions can negatively impact our ability to lead fulfilling lives.
Multigenerational trauma, also known as intergenerational trauma, refers to the transmission of trauma across multiple generations within a family or community. This concept highlights how the emotional, psychological, and physical effects of trauma experienced by one generation can influence subsequent generations, often without direct awareness or intention. For young adults, this type of trauma can manifest in various ways, such as patterns of behavior, coping mechanisms, beliefs, or emotional struggles that are rooted in the unresolved trauma of previous generations.
Through a trauma-informed lens, our therapist partners with our clients to cultivate their awareness of how they respond to stress and various forms of systemic oppression to empower them to choose ways to respond that are aligned with their values.
“In order to change, people need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them. Physical self-awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past.”- Bessel Van Der Folk
